Rally
is Friday April 23rd 11am
2004 Recovery Rally Reminder!
Online Form and Flyers
Friends!!!!!
We need you! The Rally for Recovery is Friday--at 11am, on the
steps of the State Capital.
TODAY-If you support recovery, prevention, treatment.......JOIN
US!!!
Now
is your opportunity to take action to show support with others from
across our state! So often in doing work across the state we hear
about the "need" of people literally "dying" to recover. Everyday
we get e-mails and phone calls asking why there is not more support for
people who need treatment. Parents across the state are loosing
their children to alcohol and other drugs, and we must unite to end the
devastation too many know daily across the state.
This rally is at a critical time in our state, and we need to show
strength in numbers. Substance abuse funding has already been
marked for cuts. We need to send a message that not only do we
support funding, but funding to the national state averages.
Supporting Recovery, and Preventing use and abuse of addictive
substances: saves lives and money
for all residents of our state!
Your
voice is needed if the state Legislature is to hear our message!
The rally is at 11am on Friday. Plan to attend, use your lunch
hour, if you can't make it, send someone from your family to stand in
your place. Ask your friends, family, clergy, doctors, neighbors,
anyone you know who will benefit from less addiction in Louisiana
(Everyone!!!)
Dr. Loren Scotts Study is a reason to take action to
promote recovery!
Recovery Saves Louisiana Money & Promotes Growth-Only
8% of Louisiana adult residents finding recovery support (Treatment) and
a mere 32 medical detox beds for 4.4 million residents, it is no
surprise that Louisiana has many social ills, and clean up costs
related to untreated addiction. Studies by Economist Loren Scott clearly
show that effective, available treatment
saves
Louisiana tax payers money, and we know it improves communities,
while saving and restoring families.
LisaLaws-those
most Vulnerable to Alcohol Abuse and Addiction
Although alcohol is by far the most abused
drug in the country, little control is mandated on its sales and
promotions, to the determent of millions of people. The
alcohol industry uses this position its profits have provided to
keep disclosure of true health risks hidden from millions in this
country. Even more they have focused on a need for "individuals"
only to be held responsible for consuming their their products
and any health or safety consequences that result (yes even if they
are minors--it is not their fault--it is the parents fault!!)
No such thing as "Responsible Drinking for millions in recovery or
struggling in recovery" Each year billions are spent to
convince many that they can indeed consume their products
"responsibly". This we know is simply not possible for those who are
recovering from alcoholism (dependence). To drink is to die, and that
is a message their marketing purposefully forgets to mention in
efforts maintain profits. Parents in recovery stand literally on the
frontlines for prevention of those most vulnerable to family cycles we
all know our genetics support too well!
We need your help! To gather 1 Million Signatures
We hope a million signatures on our petition for the "Lisa Laws" will
give us the strong voice necessary to push for federal changes in
current regulatory laws for alcohol, marketing, sales, and
distribution.

RENO,
Nev. (AP)--The mother of a 19-year-old killed in a traffic accident is
suing Coors Brewing Co., a subsidiary of Adolph Coors Co. (RKY),
claiming that it promotes underage drinking.
Into the solution for DWI
Those who Drink and Drive, and need treatment and recovery support to
end their deadly behaviors --get support across the country by those who
want to see the a "real" solution to this a very real and devastating
problem on our roads. There is good research showing support for a
comprehensive approach to the DWI problems across the country by
addressing the addiction-the disease- we all know that incarceration
does not treat alcoholism/addiction. Yet for too many years the
only advocates working on this issue have been those who were not
focused on health causation (the disease) but punishing those with this
behavior. Working to promote a blend of the two has shown to be
very effective in the outcome studies done by in Drug Courts across the
country, as well as coercive recovery models that are integrated
into courts in many states. Standards will be vital to the success
of any of these programs. Alcoholics will take any door that
allows them to drink- standards mean little "wiggle room" for the denial
factor which is often the biggest culprit of those who "don't have a
problem" after tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, and multiple
arrests. Lets support getting proactive on this issue.
Punishing sick people will not end their "bad" behavior that places
innocent people at risk. Promoting recovery, and supporting
systems that work will reduce deaths, save costs on incarceration and
improve the health and safety of all on the roads.
Article:
Jail time for drunk drivers provides a short
period of public safety while these drivers aren't on the road, says
Judge Hoffman, whose Eaton County district southwest of Lansing includes
more than 100,000 people. But it hasn't done anything for the underlying
addiction. "I don't think we can incarcerate our way out of drug and
alcohol problems," the judge says. Read the entire article here
