Update:  HB 755 was killed as a result of politics that had nothing to do with the alcohol help hotline.

Amendments were added to this bill in good faith to create a source of funding, and the process in a conference committee in the last hours of this legislative session.

An amendment to undo a bill passed earlier in the session that would basically force small business owners of Louisiana wineries to go thru the corporate wholesalers (this would have also put the small business's out of business)

The alcohol lobby (which represents the wholesalers) killed this bill -and did so by having the author of the bill carrying the industries amendment Rep. Powell oppose other areas of the bill one that was controversial and also not very clear, but the author understood this amendment would clarify existing law for 500 of the retailers selling daiquiris onsite and not allow any additional in our state.

WE BELIEVED THE BILL WAS PASSED...LITTLE DID WE KNOW....(SEE ABOVE)

Reducing Alcohol Crisis in Louisiana in Memory of  Corey Domangue LSU Honors Student
who died from an Alcohol Overdose- in October 2003
Help came to late for Corey Domangue--We can change this!

You can help!
Support the Domangue Family in their efforts to see that those who have alcohol crisis, alcohol abuse problems:

Follow the progress of HB 755 and let your Legislative Representatives know you support real hope and help for Louisiana's alcohol problems.

1.  Realize that alcohol can be misused causing life threatening harm, and that  help is available.

That is the purpose in  creating and promoting a statewide alcohol helpline -will raise awareness that alcohol problems exist in our state, currently there is no public resource made available to promote help for alcohol problems, there is great need for awareness with an avenue for help if/when it is needed.

Alcohol is a leading cause of death for youth in Louisiana, Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, are preventable and treatable, information and education along with support for individuals with problems offers hope to those who experience alcohol crisis.

Alcohol Deaths can end, and your action in supporting one of the first real efforts taken to educate, inform, and support those who have problems with alcohol use is needed.

Remembering Cory
Corey died, the 4th time he drank, his body responded to alcohol in a way he and his friends could not have ever imagined, he died of an alcohol overdose October 10, 2003.

  • By phone: You may obtain information by calling the Legislature's Public Update Legislative Service, or PULS line. The numbers are (225) 342-2456 or (800) 256-3793.

  • Alcohol Problems can happen to anyone who drinks, and this legislation can offer hope and life saving measures for alcohol  problems.....After a night of drinking, and studying, Cory, an honors student at LSU, showed little sign of being intoxicated.  We need to increase awareness, and help for alcohol problems,  overdose, and addiction/abuse.
Join Cory's Family and friends in supporting  HB 755 which will provide posting of this helpline wherever alcohol is sold.

Those with a family history of alcohol/addiction, need to know their tolerance may not allow them to "feel" or "know" they are literally poisoning themselves to death drinking alcohol.  The friends with him said that he didn't even appear intoxicated, his friends could not have known to call for help sooner, changing the awareness level and making help available known with promotion of the toll free number will make a difference, and save lives.
