to prevent and address our "significant" problem with alcohol and
other drugs.
• Overwhelming majority (76%) believe alcohol / drug
abuse is a significant problem in our community.
• Most believe prevention begins in the home, yet
six in ten of us believe parents are not equipped to do the job.
• Most believe we are NOT winning the "war on drugs"
but DO believe all levels of government (especially local) should be
committing serious resources to reduce the problem through
prevention and treatment.
• Most believe drug testing in the schools is a
strategy worth using.
• One in eight families have had addiction problems
but one in six have had problems getting services.
