Programs on display for
substance abusers.
The O'Brien House Crossroads
Conference 2002 was a success!! About 130 conference participants
representing alcohol and drug prevention & treatment programs were
exposed to three major prevention models. The three models
showcased were: Creating Lasting Family Connections Prevention
Model, The Strengthening Families Prevention Model and the
Curriculum Based Support Group Prevention Model. The Model
programs represented speakers from Kentucky, Louisiana and Texas.
Katherine Martin, The Executive
Director of O'Brien House, and the co-sponsors of the conference,
Michael Duffy, Acting Assistant Secretary of Office for Addictive
Disorders of The State Department of Health and Hospitals, and Jan
Kasofsky, Executive Director of Capital Area Human Services
District, were proud of the opportunity to begin dialogue about
using researched and evidenced based prevention programs that
work. The focus is to involve the whole family because our youth
and the parents are integral parts of making any program
successful---even pregnant women and their babies all must be
informed of the problems with substance and alcohol abuse.
The Crossroads Conference also hosted
the O'Brien House Board of Directors and Advisory Committee Annual
Meeting. The meeting presented progress in the areas of
treatment, prevention and community development. It ended with a
spotlight of successful O'Brien House Graduates sharing their
lives/progress.
On behalf of the conference planning
committee and co-sponsors, we want to thank all the conference
participants and look forward to Crossroads Conference 2003.
