You local representative and senator
P. O. Box 000

City, LA 00000

Dear (Senator or Rep):

I am asking that you please support and vote for the establishment of a Louisiana DWI Court, First Offense DWI Screenings, Close the Loophole on  21 mandatory,  and the Keg Reg legislation to be introduced this upcoming session. I am part of a large group of advocates from across the state who are working to change the current public policies to improve the health and well being of all citizens of the state of Louisiana.

What is DWI Court?

Similar to our current drug court but it applies only for those driving under the influence of alcohol which are currently not treated by drug court. It allows both consequences and treatment for those drivers whose screenings determine they are in need. SOURCE: Hopenetworks.org

What is First Offense DWI Screenings?

Anyone arrested for first offense DWI will receive mandatory screening by a Louisiana Board Certified Substance Abuse Counselor and if needed will benefit from early intervention program or receive substance abuse treatment. SOURCE: Hopenetworks.org

What is Mandatory 21?
Statewide legislation or local ordinance that would prevent persons 18-20 years of age from entering into bars and lounges where alcohol is the principle commodity sold and can be consumed on the premises. Once inside a bar, drinks are easily passed from adult to youth. And 87 % of voters statewide support Mandatory 21, 75% think it is easy for youth to have access to alcohol once inside a bar, and 71% are concerned that youth are allowed in bars but not allowed to drink SOURCE: THE LOUISIANA POLL,1998

What is Keg Reg?

A bill to require businesses that sell kegs of beer to maintain records of the purchase for a minimum of thirty days and to make the records available to law enforcement upon request. Keg Reg would be a valuable underage drinking enforcement tool.
