41.5% of Baton Rouge 12th graders report drinking alcohol in
the last 30 days.
College Drinking
Legal drinking age is 21 unless
with parent/guardian.
2002 LSU Results, College Alcohol

tells us students report that they:
Began drinking regularly between ages of 13-20
of the 18-20 year old respondents,:

no = 34.2%
Said that they or
their friends usual get alcohol with no ID at off-campus bars

in alcohol related fatal crashes,

5. Social and Domestic concerns, and related costs.
Additional Risks:
Existing need to educate the public on Alcohol Harm/Public
Health risks:
Estimated 40% of Women given prenatal care at Earl K.
Long, in EBR, indicate a need for alcohol or other drug
treatment. (CAHSD)
FAS is leading cause of retardation at birth, and 100%
prventable.
Any alcohol consumption is unsafe for the unborn child.
Child Abuse/Domestic
Abuse
The LOUISIANA OFFICE OF COMMUNITY SERVICES, which provides child
welfare services, estimates that, currently, up to 75 percent
of the families receiving Child Protective Services
interventions have some substance abuse involvement.

responding to alcohol-related accident and violence calls;
court-related costs of adjudicating alcohol-related cases; costs
for incarceration

Violence
occurs more often in neighborhoods where alcohol is widely
available than in those where it is not
