Making
Treatment available saves Louisiana Millions
Addiction Treatment saves Louisiana -dollars and
lives. We support efforts to see data that validates what most
know, and here in this report by Louisiana Office of Addictive disorders conducted by
economist, Loren Scott, we see the socioeconomic value of
treatment/recovery. This report supports our advocacy efforts,
providing a view of Louisiana in the most conservative approach
possible, still savings are enormous, if we have effective,
appropriate treatment available for those who meet the criteria for
substance abuse (addiction) treatment. Today 8% of the adults in need
get treatment, and only 4% of youth, this means most who need help
don't get it in Louisiana.
National Academy of Sciences Report on Alcohol and Underage Drinking,
calls for increased alcohol excise tax, and reduction in target
marketing, and more to reduce the risks youth face related to alcohol
consumption in the U.S.
