Do you think college kids know that alcohol can poison them to death?
Do you think the culture is providing a permission slip for alcohol overdose?
Ideas on what should be done, and how to do it?
Share your thoughts.

Alcohol poisoning is a taboo subjuect on college campuses and for parents. Old and young do not know that death can occur from drinking large amounts of alcohol at one time. We must begin to discuss educational efforts to disseminate information on the signs of alcohol poisoning and actions to take if someone you are with slips into a deep sleep after driking heavly. It's the adult's responsibilty to protect youth from a toxic environment with easy access to alcohol.

The idea that alcohol is a poison is so foreign to the carefully craft media image of alcohol that has been constructed in our culture. The reality that guzzling booze is life threatening is lost in all the media glorification of alcohol. Considering the airwaves are supposed to be owned by "we the people" one has to wonder where we have gone go wrong to allow this "drink the poison" message to pollute our culture.
The power of the media is enormous. Dennis Kucinich, one of the Democratic presidential candidates, said it best when he mocked that power, "it is an awesome responsibility the media has in choosing our next president." Yet, it is the same for alcohol. Big Alcohol with their money and influence in the government turns "drinking poison" into the "high life". To paraphrase Bob Marley, "is there a place for the hopeless sinner who hurts all mankind Line His own Pockets?" and again "Get up Stand up. Stand up for your rights."
