Alcohol and Drug Addiction annually costs every Oklahoma household more than $1,043 per year in Federal, State and Local taxes.

Over 431,331 Oklahomans (an estimated 12.5% of the population) have a serious problem with alcohol and/or drug addiction.

Often, a problem drinker/user will affect six other people.
This represents 2,587,986 - from all age, socio-economic groups and levels, races and creeds - in need of help, guidance, and referral when addiction effects their lives. Sooner or later - directly or indirectly - alcoholism and drug addiction affects everyone - whether at home, the workplace, or the classroom.

The Mission for the Spirit of Recovery is to be a visible, viable and active non-profit 501(c)(3) education foundation in presenting a "recovery voice" that advances public awareness and public policy that will improve the availability of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for the disease of alcohol and drug addiction.

Speaking out...

Dr. Marvin Block, physician and professor at the N.Y. School of Medicine, Syracuse, N.Y., said it best while speaking before the Midland (Texas) Council on Alcoholism during the early 1960’s: “very little progress will be made in conquering alcoholism until there was a fundamental change in the public attitude about alcoholism.”  This statement is true today!

Together

People in recovery believe that it is important that Oklahomans hear the stories of those whose lives have been transformed by their recovery from addiction. Telling these stories is a means to eliminate shame, discrimination and other barriers to recovery. Fully 87% of the recovery community members say that it is very important for Oklahomans to understand the basic facts about addiction and recovery. Additionally, 88% believe that it is important that Oklahomans understand that thousands of people with addiction to alcohol and drugs get well every year.

Alcohol and drug addiction is a treatable illness that responds to intervention and treatment.
