Alcoholism
treatment must be an integral component of all policies,
strategies, and laws which address drinking problems in our
Communities. The more untreated alcoholism we have today, the
more likely we are to see next generations suffering from the same
problems. Alcoholism is a disease with both genetic and
environmental factors. Children that come from homes (more
than 9million nationally) with parents in need of alcohol or drug
addiction treatment, have greater risks genetically to follow the
paths of their parents. Recovery for parents provides a
sober/recovering environment, this reduces some of the risk these
children face.
Did you know?
- Nearly three-quarters of drivers convicted of driving while
impaired are either problem drinkers or alcoholics.
- Binge drinkers (those who consumed five or more drinks at a
single sitting during the past month) are 30 times more likely to
drive while impaired than those who do not binge.
- Problem drinkers and Alcoholics often require treatment for
this brain disease, to have the ability to become accountable,
they have lost the power to choose responsibly.
