"Never doubt a
small group of thoughtful people could change the world. Indeed, it's
the only thing that ever has."
-Margaret Mead

Understanding the
powerful stigma, lack of education, and limited treatment resources,
empowers our efforts. Grass-Roots action, does not take place
because enormous amounts of money for marketing and promotion efforts.
This action comes from intuitively understanding with compassion,
identifying, and feeling an allegiance to help our brothers, sisters,
aunts, uncles, co-workers, friends or family, community, find help and
hope, from the savage disease that takes more lives each year than any
other treatable disease.

PROGRESS......2003Advocacy and Recovery!
Our support rally for Recovery, was the second one held, and
we had many more in attendance this year! This effort in Louisiana
brought HopeNetworks partner groups and individuals from all over
the state into one place to rally and show support for recovery
support services, and the support is growing. So many in
this state have struggled for too long, the health and well
being of the residents in this state, is a "must have" if
Louisiana is to move forward, and the overwhelming need for
substance abuse treatment must be addressed. We continue
to work together to collaborate for solutions in our
communities, and our network of hope is growing!
Press Releases
(Baton Rouge)
HopeNetworks.org a grass-roots communication and
collaboration online resource, is planning the launch of
"Real People, Really Recover", a new Advocacy project
targeting those who have found recovery from alcohol and
drug abuse, as well as their loved ones, to rally community
support for expanding available treatment and prevention
services.
The project is in the
spirit of HopeNet's commitment to community restoration to
the nation's number one Public Health problem, Addiction.
The cost and consequences of alcoholism and drug dependence
place an enormous burden on American society. As the
nation’s number one health problem, addiction strains the
health care system, the economy, harms family life and
threatens public safety. Louisiana leads the nation in this
plague on communities, and those with the unique experiences
both before and after recovery, are communicating a message,
Real People, Really Recover from alcohol and drug
addictions, and go on to live successful, productive lives
in our communities, much like those recovering from other
chronic illness's.
Founder, Samantha-Hope
Atkins, said "Recovery is real for many of us we are
living examples, with almost 1000 people waiting on
treatment beds in this state, we must continue to show
support for Treatment programs our message is one of hope
for those who are need of recovery and support services
and the communities those people live and work in.
Louisiana, is faced with
enormous costs related to social ills rooted in alcohol and
drug dependency. Poverty, Incarceration, and Illiteracy,
and their consequences, place enormous fiscal demands
on our state's budget. Studies have shown that the
poorest people suffer the greatest consequences for
addiction related illness. In addition, the economic
tolls on communities and states is staggering. The
socioeconomic impact of addiction totaled more than $440
Billion dollars nationally last year. "The monies
being used by states to clean up communities, is surely
better spent in building them" Atkins said.
HopeNetworks, is asking that all individuals go to the
registration form online at
www.HopeNetworks.org
to get involved and active in the groups efforts or by
