Report Unconstitutional Government Funding of a Religious Social Service Provider

Granting public funds to religious social service providers can violate the Constitution in many ways, including when any of the following occurs:

  • Publicly-funded religious discrimination in employment public funds are used to pay salaries of employees who are hired, promoted, or fired based on what their religion is or what their religion-related beliefs or practices are.
  • Religious use of government funds public funds are actually used to pay for religious instruction, religious proselytization, religious worship, or other religious activities.
  • Public funding of pervasively religious programs public funds are granted to programs that are so permeated by religion that their secular side cannot be separated from their religious side.
  • Religious coercion of benefit recipients publicly-funded religious social service providers coerce or pressure benefit recipients to submit to religious proselytization or instruction, or to participate in religious worship or other religious activities.
  • Religious set-asides and preferences in awarding grants, a government body makes funds available only to religious organizations or creates a preference for religious organizations.

If you are aware of any instances of such unconstitutional government funding of religious social service providers, please e-mail us at [email protected] or report the violation through our online form. We are particularly interested in learning about violations involving federal funds.
